Latin II Part 1

In Latin II Part 1, students will read about Cornelius and his family and their adventures in Ancient Rome. Students will learn about clauses, passive verbs, present passive infinitives, and perfect passive participles. Adverbs and deponent verbs will be covered, as well as numbers, participles, and perfect active infinitive verbs. Students will continue to learn about Roman history throughout the chapters.
It is recommended that students successfully complete Latin I or equivalent course work before enrolling in this course.

These courses include auditory comprehension assessments that require students to listen to audio files and to record themselves speaking. For these courses, it is essential that students have either a headset equipped with a microphone or access to an internal microphone within their computers.

Course Objectives

Unit 1: Essential Content and Skills

  • Practice using and translating relative pronouns.
  • Analyze and translate relative clauses.
  • Recognize and translate words that begin with qu.
  • Recognize the forms of indefinite adjectives.
  • Practice writing and translating qu words, indefinite adjectives, and interrogative pronouns.
  • Practice correctly reading and translating passive voice verbs.

Unit 2: Essential Content and Skills

  • Practice reading and translating present passive infinitives.
  • Translate and write demonstrative adjectives and pronouns.
  • Translate and read perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect passive verbs.
  • Practice working with passive verb forms.
  • Practice writing and translating perfect passive participles.

Unit 3: Essential Content and Skills

  • Translate and read irregular, positive, comparative, and superlative adjectives.
  • Practice reading and translating adverbs.
  • Translate and read dates correctly.
  • Translate the various uses of quam.
  • Recognize and correctly translate deponent verbs.

Unit 4: Essential Content and Skills

  • Translate and read numbers in Latin.
  • Translate place and time constructions with and without prepositions.
  • Recognize and translate semi-deponent verbs.
  • Recognize and translate present participles.
  • Recognize and translate perfect active infinitive verbs.
  • Practice translating participial phrases.
