Latin II Part 2

In Latin II Part 2, students will continue learning more advanced aspects of Latin grammar. Students will be introduced to more adverbs, along with the irregular verbs "nolo," "malo," and "volo." The structure of questions will be discussed, as will the more complex uses of the dative case. Students will continue to master previously learned material while building their Latin vocabularies and dissecting complex Latin sentences.
Before enrolling in Latin II Part 2, students should have successfully completed Latin II Part 1 or equivalent course work.

These courses include auditory comprehension assessments that require students to listen to audio files and to record themselves speaking. For these courses, it is essential that students have either a headset equipped with a microphone or access to an internal microphone within their computers.

Course Objectives

Unit 1: Essential Content and Skills

  • Identify the forms of the imperfect and pluperfect subjunctive active.
  • Read and translate subordinate clauses and indirect questions with the subjunctive.
  • Explore the forms of the imperfect and pluperfect subjunctive passive.
  • Explore the ablative absolute.
  • Review perfect passive participles.
  • Recognize and translate the ablative absolute.
  • Read and translate the linking quī.

Unit 2: Essential Content and Skills

  • Accurately form and translate future active participles.
  • Practice using suffixes and frequentative verbs.
  • Review imperfect and pluperfect subjunctives.
  • Read and translate indirect statements accurately.
  • Examine and translate the forms of fīō, fierī, and factus sum.
  • Read and translate the irregular verb mālō.

Unit 3: Essential Content and Skills

  • Translate indirect statements with various verb tenses.
  • Translate indirect statements with passive and deponent infinitives.
  • Read and translate the infinitive forms of deponent verbs.
  • Examine what to expect when using the verb audiō.
  • Utilize the present and perfect subjunctives to practice reading and translating result clauses.
  • Read and translate the present and perfect subjunctive verb forms.

Unit 4: Essential Content and Skills

  • Read and translate indirect commands.
  • Review direct and indirect questions, statements, and commands.
  • Practice reading and translating impersonal verbs.
  • Read and translate purpose clauses.
  • Review the uses of ut.
